FAQ

Any flights for commercial gain require certification of both the pilot (or UAV Controller) flying the actual drone, and the business which is conducting the operation. The pilot must have a UAV Controller’s Certificate (formerly called Remote Pilot Certificate) and the business must have a UAV Operator’s Certificate (or UOC).

From 25th September 2016 the term UAV will generally be replaced with RPA in official documents and the UAV Controller’s Certificate will be replaced by the Remote Pilot Licence.

All Skytex drone operations will follow the guidelines below:

  • Drones are given a thorough pre-flight inspection by the operator before each flight.
  • All Skytex Drones are under 7kg take off weight.
  • Drone will always be in Visual line-of-sight (VLOS) of the operator.
  • In some cases Skytex may bring a visual observer to assist in maintaining VLOS.
  • Skytex does not use First Person View (FPV) Goggles
  • Maximum drone altitude is 400 feet above ground level.
  • Minimum distance of 30 meters – Horizontally Measured – from any person that is not directly involved with the flight.
  • Minimum weather visibility is 3 miles from control station.
  • If the shoot is within 3 nautical miles of the movement area of a controlled aerodrome or restricted area that is classified as RA3, RA2 or RA1 airspace otherwise than in accordance with regulation 101.065 (We will research this before our first meeting) Skytex will need to secure permission for the flight before starting.
  • Over an area where a fire, police or other public safety or emergency operation is being conducted without the approval of a person in charge of the operation

Absolutely. We carry a specialized policy with $10 million public liability to make ensure that we have coverage in the rare instance something goes wrong.

The UAV’s performance and safety is directly associated to weather conditions. Ideal conditions are minimal winds and with high cloud but depending on the use, most UAV’s can be operated in less than perfect conditions.  A risk assessment is undertaken before each takeoff to ensure that all risk of damage to equipment, property and the public is minimised.

Yes. We can provide you all of the raw footage in several formats or we can edit your images and video to meet your requirements.

Batteries allow for 15-20 minutes total flight times so actual flights are limited to 10-15 minutes as all flights are terminated when battery level reaches 30%.  We can make several flights in order to guarantee that we get highest quality shots you request.

Due to the large amount of work and man hours that happens prior to our aircraft lifting off the ground, all work requires a deposit in advance. Please read our terms and conditions for more information.

The SKYTEX Team exist to bring your story, event, or creative vision to life. The most effective way to do this is to have a firm idea of the content required prior to film. We can work with you to develop storyboards, shot list, and are always happy to discuss where we can fit into a larger production, for TVCs, Music Videos, Event Coverage etc
